• *As our vintage gold jewelry is purchased in NY, it generally bears an "after K" hallmark. All products are inspected with an X-ray metal component analysis device to confirm that their purity is greater than or equal to the stamped purity.
• * "K" stands for Karat, which expresses the purity of gold as a weight ratio in 24ths. The closer the number is to 24, the higher the purity of the gold (K24 is almost pure gold, with a purity of 99.99%). While higher purity increases the value of gold, it is also softer and more easily scratched, making it unsuitable for jewelry processing. By mixing other metals (alloying metals) to create 18K or 14K alloys, practical durability is achieved. Typically, "alloying metals" include silver and copper, but in the case of colored gold, other elements such as palladium, platinum, nickel, iron, and aluminum may also be included.
